Meyer Corporation, the largest cooking utensil distributor in the United States and the world’s second largest, has notified the US Attorney General’s office of a data breach affecting thousands of its employees. Meyer Meiya is a kitchenware invention expert from the United States, having been formed in 1951.
There are about 20 well-known kitchenware brands there. It has distinct international R&D teams, manufacturing hubs, and global logistics centers. It has cross-border collaborations with many well-known chefs around the world, and its goods are popular in more than 70 nations and regions.
Meyer Corporation was a victim of a cyber attack on October 25, 2021, according to a notification letter sent with the attorney general’s offices of Maine and California.
As a result, Meyer initiated an investigation that concluded on December 1, 2021, revealing that the threat actor had gained access to personal information belonging to Meyer and its subsidiaries.
Meyer data disclosure explained in the notice that “on or around December 1, 2021, our investigation found that Meyer’s employee information [including employees of Meyer’s subsidiaries hestan Commercial Corporation, hestan smart cooking, hestan vineyards, and blue mountain enterprises, LLC] may be accessed without authorization.”
Personal information that the threat actor may have exposed and copied includes the following:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Social security number
- Health insurance information
- Medical conditions
- Random drug screening results
- Covid vaccination card
- Driving license
- Government ID number
- Permanent resident card
- Immigration status information
- Family information
“Meyer places a high value on protecting its employees’ personal information. Meyer offers impacted employees and their families two years of free identity protection services “The data disclosure notice provided to the affected employees came to an end.
Despite the fact that Meyer’s announcement did not disclose specific details regarding the data disclosure network attack, a relevant list dating back to November 7, 2021 was discovered on the conti blackmail website.
Meyer’s conti portal entry includes a zip file with 2% of the data reportedly stolen during the cyber attack by extortion software gangs.
The famed blackmail software company, on the other hand, did not follow up and disclose the remaining 98 percent in the months that followed, implying that they were willing to negotiate forever or had lost interest.
In either situation, bad actors have no recourse now that Meyer has made the issue public and provided identity protection services to those who have been harmed.
